1. Win Patrol  - This start-up manager alerts you when new programs are set to run, giving you the chance to stop them and tells u when some try to install....

2. Spybot  - blocks spyware

3. - Ad-aware  - scans for spyware.

4. - ZoneAlarm -  free firewall.

5. - Avast4HomeEdition - free antivirus program  i  like it better than norton.  (u need 1- 5 and u got something thats good for free ....
)
6. Bittorrent... power of downloading movies and sounds ect....

7. feshdiagnose - benchmark everything ;) if u want...

8. nude pics of caleena - everyone needs a desktop.....

Um, spybot search &destroy has new updates like twice a day, ad aware has new updates once every decade
However, they fill eachother out nicely so i use both, and CWShredder if i suspect theres some tougher spyware i cant get rid of

U should use BHO demon too ^_^ its great if u have a hijacked browser :).

i only use adaware, since i dont see any use for spybot 0_O. and sygate firewall is teh r0x! but zonealarm is damn nice too, being free and all i mean.

And kerios new versions are just to much work *yawn* :P

The one you pay for is far more secure - the free version is taught to college students studying computer protection etc.. the source code is out in the open so as far as im concerned the free Zonealarm isnt that great.

 Actually I did a study on about 10 major antivirus softwares last year for school, and  the top 2 were Panda and Norton.  Alot of  it is preference, and computer specs what will work best for you.
