Im glad I still live in one of the free bastions of file sharing. Norway.

"I would like to download some music please?"
"Sure my little friend, go ahead, we allow sharing stuff here in Norway, please, take all my albums too, so we can share this amazing music!"
"Aw, sir, that is too kind, I love you mr. Norwegian law-man."

Aw, what a cute story.

Not allowing people to share stuff is kinda weird, I mean, some time in the future, will there a guy walking around checking if you lend someone the new dvd you bought? Its no bigge, one guy buys the stuff, 10 people watch it. It has always been like that.

I guess I just dont understand.

the problem are those people that burn the dvd's thousandfold and sell them for hard cash. Making money with something they are not supposed to and they put zero work in.
Download stuff? Ok. But if you think the music is pwn then please go buy the full album. I hate those morons that say "omg band xxx is soooo cool" but when you check they have nothing but burned CDs and mp3s.

Support the people that make good music/software.

Yeah, I can understand the people who sell stuff are doing something wrong. But this sure affects the rest of us "Normal" people.

Booohooo.

And when it comes to CD's and stuff, I have like 20 cd's stuffed down in some boxes, once I could rip stuff on my computer, I never took em out again. :)

Long Live King MP3.

(I mostly buy films on DVD tho, not a huge music collector myself).

I would like to support the artist, not Fony or some other megacorp who makes untold billions on the artists. I'am not saying they shouldnt make money on something they invest time and money into, but the amount of money they make is crazy...

If an albums sells 2 million copies, those with a recipt for their copy, get a 5$ kupon for the next album they buy....

Most bands i hear aint on some dipshit megacorp label.

Indy forever!

(and no i will never again buy a record that Sony, EMI or universal gets cash from, i rather DL the music and buy 2 T-shirts at the concert)

The only problem with pirating, which was stated above, is when people start to make money off of it by copying and reselling it.

Buying a whole album is a problem for me, mostly because the good songs are split between albums and sometimes you can't even find the album with the song you like on it because you don't know what it is!! And im pretty sure that artists make more money from concerts with screaming die hard fans (die hard is a badass movie) that will pay 20-30 bucks a pop for a shirt and for sueiveneers(how ever the hellz ya spell it), because they pay alot for tickets and what not. And does the phrase "I do it for the music not the money", ring a bell?

Anyways, if i was a pirate i would prolly put my hook on the left hand not the right, cause thats me sword hand...   and i would prolly have a pink parrot cause that would be badass to have a bird talk shit to you all day.

I will pirate microsoft products for the rest of my life, cept maybe halo, and thats because microsoft already has too much damn money. But games like halflife and doom i would gladly pay money for to support their awesome gaming company. I do the same for movies and music.

If you download something that you enjoy, or approve of, just go out and buy it.  If you don't like it delete it move on.

Ummm... no
Maybe if i had money comming out of my ass i would do so, but i don't see why i should pay $15-20 for an album with 3 or maybe 4 good songs on it, while that is almost a week of food for me and the artist shows off all his blingbling in the videoclip on TRL.

I will support good bands on indy labels, if not by buying the album then by going to their concert and wearing their T-shirts.
Same goes for software.
(dvds i never buy, i hardly DL them either, i go to the theater or lend em out)

I totally agree about the music.  Download at will, but if you like what you hear, BUY IT.  Whether it's Sony/etc or not, pay them the money.

Now with games, I'm f******* sick and tired of game devs not giving us a free demo ahead of purchase.  I have NO PROBLEM with buying a game I like, but look at, say, Doom3....I was excited about this game, there was no demo, I was stupid enough to pay 55 bucks the day it came out and the game was almost terrible.

Now had I downloaded it ahead of time, I could have determined if the game was worth my time or not and made that decision whether or not to play.

HL2 = totally worth the money, but again they should have released a demo.

Evil Genius = released a demo, demo was fun....still unsure (the demo left ALOT of things out and ended waaaay to quickly, which left me suspiscious), I D/Led the full version and saw how messy minion management was and how poor the AI was, something that I could not determine in the demo.  Hence, I didn't buy it.

what they need to do is give a 1 or 2 day unlimited evaluation for music and games....I think that with broadband getting faster and faster and bandwidth getting waaaay cheaper (Japan now has 1Gb fibre for the equivalent of 38 us bucks), it might be possible to stream the game/music entirely online to prevent most piracy....In fact, the old game "Giants: Citizen Kabuto" did this, I'm surprised nobody else has....

The "Phantom" vaporware game console had something like this in mind and really, it's needed to reduce piracy, but still give gamers an honest view of what a game is going to be like.

I'm sick of being screwed by overhyped weak movies, CDs with only 1 good song, game that look great in screenshots (or biased reviews, a la IGN's Shadowlands previews), but really suck in reality.

The industries talk about us pirating as if they're entirely innocent themselves, but in reality, they've been pirating consumers' money for decades....This is an instance of karma turning around AND BITING THEM IN THE ASS!
