What's that ugly spikey stupid looking thing doing on your arm?  What is that?  magic marker?  You need to wash that off.

edit:  oh... I read the thread title.  My apologies

Fad tattoos are always a bad idea.  At least this guy is representing his love and hobby (admittedly with poorly drawn and assymetric tattoos)

It's a stupid fad tattoo, he got it because it looked cool to his 17 year old brain, and unfortunately, he'll be stuck wearing long sleeves from 18-death

Possibly the only tattoo more dumb than a trendy "tribal" tattoo would be one of those dragon/wizard/fairy style tattoos that were big in the 90s

Farming nerf points?
Bracket busted?
Hemorrhoidal flareup?

Start a thread and I'm sure you'll see suggestions.

As for the tat. Good for you insighn. If you like it- thats whats important. For instance, I like Guinness. Bantram like pbr. =P

I wouldn't get a tat or drink pbr. But I have been around someone who has both. And shared pbr beer farts afterwards.

Worse ever.

Moral? Enjoy your tat and forget the haters. :)

Theres quite a lot of tattoos like the tribal ones in Wales, Ireland and Scotland, most are on 50+ year old people as well as younger people, in part in this and other small parts of the world, they are a mark of respect to history and heritige that created them.

For these people, my people, the old decendants of the clans, (yes really _the clans_) these markings have significance, they speak of history _thousands_ of years older than the country a lot of american kids getting these tatoos; live in.

Heh not to start a anti-US theme, just because I can point at a building _older_ than the discovery of the US (by the vikings) from my house, doesn't invalidate the most powerful country in world, it pretty much celebrates it.

Tatoos are not something that goes away, if you know you will always believe in what you tat says, why not speak it visibley, but remember they will be with you for a very long time.

Wow.  You are so very misinformed.  Just because it's called a "tribal" tattoo doesn't mean it's actually a tribal tattoo :)

This is a picture of a Viking.

They ruled!
Some of them came from Norway.

They went to America after the natives, but before everyone else. They called it "Vinland".

Quote
Vinland was the name given to a part of North America by the Icelandic Norseman Leifur Eiríksson, about the year (AD)1000. Later archeological evidence of Norse settlement in North America was found at L'Anse aux Meadows on the island of Newfoundland, in what is recently now termed the Canadian Province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Whether this was the Vinland of the Norse accounts is not the subject of debate; they got there. It must be recognised that the Vikings did not perceive the exploration and settlement of Greenland and Vinland as any different than that of founding Iceland. It was merely an extension of their homeland, and notions of a different world only surfaced upon meeting the natives, noticeably different from Irish monks in Iceland.

For more info regarding Vikings and Vinland, you can look at these links:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viking
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vinland

Why I did this? Not sure. I quit playing games and I find that I have really, really much free time on my hand. I do some schoolwork, but the days when I don't do that I really have too much time on my hands. And.. no, I am not gonna start playing again I think.

The vikings were friggin' badasses.  They called the natives of north america Scraelings.  I love that word.  Scraelings.

Cal2, i'm perfectly fine with my current direction of self-loathing.  I just think it's funny that you actually think tribal tattoos have real meaning.  It's cute

Possibley because you have yet to grasp the meaning of what I originaly posted, that "tribal" tatoos are _like_(akin similar) to the tatoos I continued to discribe in the rest of my post.

Or Celtic, Gaelic, Mauri, Haitian, Tongan and the shitload of other tribal tatto designs that go back thousands of years, all which have meaning.

Just because some fuckhead in the middle of the USA has some pointy all-black design that means shit on his arm, doesn't mean that all tribal designs are meaningless.  That is akin to saying that; just because you don't read Russian, it's all bullshit.  What a sad and blinkered view on life.  I actually thought that you were doing better Bant.

Well lets not derail :)

Yeah the design you have looks familier might be worth checking out where it stems from or was based on, its symetrical wich means it was both done proffesionaly, and relates to something pagen-ish where all symbols have a certain symetry reflect man-woman, night-day and good-evil themes etc, it's not uncommon in any culture though rather like ying-yang, some people think that symbol comes from a 70's t-shirt but most know it's far far older.

Tatoos are not something that goes away, if you know you will always believe in what you tat says, why not speak it visibley, but remember they will be with you for a very long time.

I have a bunch of tats, nothing huge in size, all in spots that are coverable by clothing. A bunch of them have chinese characters in them that all meant something to me at that time. For example, my first tat means to be lost... while I don't think I am as lost as I was back then, but it serves as a memory where I can look back in time and remember stuff of my past. I have one that says "love and hate" surround by a spider web with a black widow moving in on a heart caught in the middle of its web, while it seems like a fucked up thing to tattoo on my body (on my shin/ankle), that is how i felt about someone back then - getting heart broken for first time. I have one that says Trust/truth, which ever interpation you read it as right over my heart. I have a heart shaped dragon on my left arm/shoulder (which is gonna be opperated on soon - tore labrum and other crap in there) and in it's eyes are chinese symbols that mean angel and demon...

I guess the point of my blabbing is that my tats might not be something i feel later in life, but they represent that ways i felt at particuler period of my life, and server as reminders to me. Every watch the movie Momento? good movie!

I should have clarified.  I was only talking about the crazy pointy faddy tribal tattoos that are popular right now.  I know there are a dang many of real tribal tattoos out there (the samoan ones)  I just should have clarfied better I guess.

My blinkers really aren't that big :)

A bunch of them have chinese characters in them ...

I hope you researched em and didn't take the shops word for it on the characters.  My g/f went to get her tounge pierced recently and we were walking around translating what they had one the wall, I think they had about 1/3 of them actually marked with the right meaning.  Nothing like Hot for Cold, but like Power quoted as Strength (which we saw someone get), which as we all know can mean two _completely_ separate things in certain contexts...

Friend of mine and myself were working in a summer camp, my freind was born in Nanjing, China (he is also like 58).  We were sitting at lunch one day and a counceller was close by with his shirtsleeves rolled onto his shoulders, bearing his chineese letter tattoos for all to see.

My friend, jumped up and ran over to him, pulling his glasses out of his pocket to read what it said.

"Love - Boy - Man??!" He exploded.

"I don't know what that means, but it is TERRIBLE Chineese!.

The guy was freaking out and explaining that it means Inner Power, my friend tried his best to explain that in no uncertain terms he had a tattoo to do with pedophelia on his arm.

We were driving home later that week, he was laughing smugly occaisonally.  I inquired as to what was hillarious. He explained, that while the tattoo was nonsense, it didn't mean what he said.

I love his wicked sense of humor, while we were working together he did this joke around 12 times.
