Lara Croft coulden't run 2 Km without passing out let alone shoot a Desert Eagel, pfff. The foundation for those movies are so weak (same as with Charlies Angels for that matter) that there's no basis to even remotely think any of it as plausible...
At the risk of sounding like a sexist pig: I just can't see slim, big breasted bimbos as action heros EVER!
One thing is to put them in a role as the badguy, err... I mean badgirl of the movie like in some James Bond movies. It just doesen't work for me as the main character -and good girl of the action flick.
Maybe if she'd been this butch ass army type woman, but who the hell would wanna watch that?
I'm not saying Machines traveling back in time is plausible, but at least the fiction is explained.

Lara Croft, she's a a direct ripoff of Indiana Jones. But at least he makes it look plausible for crying out loud, and those movies were fun and entertaining as well.
Which brings me to mention that stupid ripoff series with the female version of Indiana Jones(Relic Hunter I think it's called). I mean: WHY?
