I have a 3" scar on the side of my face going out from my eye towards my ear, because my step-father decided that at 19 years old, he was finaly going to put a stop to me going out, and staying in another house.

Story---
I say, "hey going now see you later"
He says "you aren't going out"
I say, "uh, what do you mean?"
He says"you aren't stepping one foot out of this house"
I say, "dude, you are fucking insane"

He proceeds to punch me around the head repeatedly, me requiring 9 stiches.

Oh, yeah, I was going HOME to MY APARTMENT, I moved out when I was 17 (because of shit like that), he _was_ insane, i swear.  He subsequently has been diagnosed with schitsophrenia, broaught on by stress.  So, it wasn't "him" that hit me.  But, I know, that he was venting fruistration, and wanted to exert power over me.

My mother was so afraid of my step-father, that she endured 16 years of marriage (only 8 while he had his "condition")

like someone else said, its the cord going from your NIC in your computer, to your hub/router/modem/whatever.

Unless you're a gimp, and have dialup, or some other inferior means of connectivity.

I only grew up with my dad, my mom died when I was 1 years old.

Kinda tuff for both me and my brother.

I got beat up once for smoking with my friends when I was like 10. I hope that I wont beat my children, if I ever decide to bring one into this world.

I have always had the most strickt (?)  parents of everyone i know.. Had to get inside the house early and stuff like that.. Im thankfull for that really.. I had so much respect for my parents,and still have! My mom and dad have been married for over 30 years,and Im proud to still have parents that live together. Its to many divorses and shit going on these days.Now my mom and me is best friends. Im more with my mom than with my friends at my age. If it hadnt been for my parents I really dont know how I would have handled (?) beeing a mother in a early age.I got pregnant at 17,gave birth at 18. My parents have had my daughter very often so i could go out have fun,and live my teenage to the fullest.. I lub them!  :lol:

actualy, you can strive to suceed as a parent where yours failed.

I believe this is why there was a lot of overcompensation in child discipline since the 60's to present.  Now, in most states its actualy "illegal" to strike your child.  Which, is utter BS.  If a parent chooses to use spanking as a form of dicsipline, and not out right beating a child, then that is up to the parent.  However, taking into consideration my exposure to the 'youth' of america (sub 6-8grade phys ed) I would say that there are a fair few out there that obviously aren't being tought to function in society, with the "reason-with-your-child" method of discipline.

You can parent a child using a "no spanking method" however its imperative that there be a form of punishment for bad behaviour, I have seen some of the most vicious bastard children in the world, (I would go so far as saying evil), who had the most "well intentioned" parents in the world.  Pointing out to me that in thier particular case, the "reasoning" method, or "disparagement" method of parenting is utter crap.  I would suggest a good 'whoopin' out at the barn for a couple of the little bastards that I had the priveladge to teach.

Oh, yeah, I was saing, that you don't have to be like your parents if you dind't agree with the way you were raised.  But, I am sure that some of the things that they did that worked you will appropriate as a parent yourself.
