WTS computer and laptop OMGz!
« on: March 10, 2004, 07:03:50 AM »
*sigh* why do people call me to fix their computer if they have no money to pay?

Seriously, I hear EVERY excuse in the book, as is the case with item #1

Compaq Presario 1200 laptop, 128MB RAM, modem, DVD-ROM drive, 10GB hard drive, Windows XP, Office XP, 14 or 15" screen (can't find the tape measurer heh) with NO dead pixels, AC cord, battery, 2 USB ports, yadda yadda bang bang.

Well, this system has been completed for 7 days and as per our written policy, systems not picked up within 7 days are considered abandoned and as much as I *HATE* taking ownership of someone's system, I gave them every opportunity to pay and they did not.

Oh, but the excuses were CLASSIC!

#1: Our car broke down and we have no way to pick it up (yet somehow they got home.....and didn't call us)

#2: My boss sold me this computer and we're going to see if she would pay for it.

#3: By this point I told the lady "look, I know you don't want the system, but whether you pick it up or not, the labor is still owed".  And SUDDENLY, her son broke his collerbone when he just suddenly fell right before I called lol.  Wow, what a streak of bad luck *giggle*  Also keep in mind I was once a Certified Nurse Aid and know that collerbones are hard to break in a regular fall.

#4: I speak to her fiance today and SUDDENLY his cell phone cuts out and he doesn't answer his phone or call me back for the rest of the day.

I don't think they fully understand that they DO owe the labor whether they want the system or not and I can't comprehend why they won't just take their laptop.  Sure, selling it is a nice profit, but it doesn't feel like a nice thing to do :/

I spend utterly too much time trying to be fair *sigh*

So, I'd rather skip dealing with Ebay as I'd need to make an account and jump through whatever hoops, so I figured I'd check to see if anyone here wants a semi-decent lil laptop :D  Make me a decent offer

System 2 is my second system that must go, as I don't have the room for it.

-80GB Seagate hard drive (sif I'd use anything but Seagate)

-Athlon 2400+ processor

-512MB PC2100

-Aopen mobo

-52X CDRW

-SB Live!

-Geforce 3Ti500

And I'll throw it in a nice new case too :p

$500 or best offer, makes a nice backup gaming system and saves me the time/cost of listing it in the paper :D

Deac you should try to create a system in which your sales are somewhat binding. try to draw up a contract or something which will protect you as service provoder. it sucks to see people screwing over a nice person.

i blame Veev

Aye, I got this huge page long contract I have the customer sign before I begin work that details payment policy, status checking, warranty, etc.....and somehow every person thinks that it does not apply to them.

Next phone book comes out in a few months and I'll be going for a much large ad that's geared more towards business.  One bad side to having low prices is you get the cheapest people....now, there's NOTHING wrong with being cheap or not having alot of cash, but these are the first people to try to rip me off.  I sometimes get so backed up with calls that I have to turn away business because I can't get out to their place fast enough.  So when someone burns me on my labor, I keep thinking to myself "wow, I could have helped someone else that would be appreciative and actually PAY for their labor".

So with the new ad comes higher labor and more professional policies (and TELECHECK OMG no more nsf checks kthx!) and more service contracts with businesses lol.  Consumers can be heartless!

Man, people never cease to amaze me.  I do my job to put food on the table and yet they hold no compunctions against trying to steal my time, my parts, etc.

Last week I had nearly 600 bucks worth of NSF checks, people not picking up their computers, etc.  600 bucks......at the same time when I gotta pay $1500 bucks worth of bills.  It's getting REAL hard to keep my cool with folks when I know they're trying to rip me off lol :D

What's worse is that as much as I need some help, it'll be impossible to find employees with enough balls to stand up to the customers and collect their payment :/

"The FBI and police threatened, instigated, and themselves conducted break-ins, vandalism, assaults, and beatings. The object was to frighten dissidents and disrupt their movements. In the case of radical Black and Puerto Rican activists (and later Native Americans), these attacks?including political assassinations?were so extensive, vicious, and calculated that they can accurately be termed a form of official 'terrorism'." So you do ship your compies across the US? If something happens and I'm shipped back off to the states (I hope not but these days I'm a pessimist from hell), I will probably need a new comp.  I havent been back home in ages but the last time I was there, computer salesmen/entrepreneurs werent big in my hometown.  I just hope my computer never acts up too badly... god knows who I would find to help me fix it. >__< Blah on smalltown-itis.
