1: Passion of the Christ DEFINITELY

2: SHAUN OF THE DEAD!!!!

When it hits the theaters in the US, you MUST freaking see this movie!!!!!!!  I bootlegged it a while back, after hearing something about it being a UK only movie and I haven't laughed so hard in years.  I think it hits the US theaters sometime in september

3: Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back....not the kind of movie I'd see these days, but when I did it became a total classic for me and still holds a warm spot in my heart despite being kinda raunchy :p

4: 1990 remake of Night of the Living Dead.  BEST zombie horror movie ever created imho

5: Spider-man2....alright, shoot me...I loved it.

hmmm,   hard to choose,  but i'll make a list of ones I certinaly consider top few of my list.

Comedy - hard choice, but I think Dumb and Dumber has to take this one.

80's Action - Action Jackson.    "barbeque 'eh? .. how do you like your ribs?"  worth it just for that scene.

Martial Arts - Fist of Legend with Jet Li is probably my favorite.  I also have to say that Jackie Chan's Drunken Master is very good too.

I'm waiting to see Hero, hopefully I can add it to the list too.

(kill bill was a horribly stupid movie)

Science Fiction - X-men movies

Scary/creepy movie -  Event Horizon was one of the few movies that kinda creeped me out in a very long time. So I like it.

Gangster movies -  Payback starring Mel Gibson.

- Casino

OK, i'm going to stop here, but thats a few good ones I dont think i've seen anyone mention

This thread isn't opinionated enough!

Why do so many put 5th Element in their top films? Was total nonsense! Donnie Darko was kinda a film for people who like to think they're watching something clever and philosophical, without realising they're just watching something that makes no sense however you try to explain it :P 28 Days later was accomplished enough until about 2/3 of the way through it just completely derailed. Last Seduction I wouldn't mind seeing again, was pretty good if I remember rightly but saw it aaages ago. Wouldn't mind watching Indiana Jones 1 or 3 again too!

In some ways Vin Diesel films I'd have higher regard for, cause at least they're not proclaiming to be something they're not. I've read several "explanations" for Donnie Darko, and they're guesses - contrived to fit the pieces together. Honestly, should I need to go looking up the online meditations of its teenage fanclub to get an answer to a movie I watch? I've seen more intelligent films than this and understood them... some interesting threads were thrown in granted, but in the end this movie just abandoned them in a mess.

And would it have half the popularity if the characters had all been middle-aged? I somehow doubt it :P It's set among high school kids, and its youth acolytes like to think they're watching and identifying with something intelligent and spiritual. Donnie Darko has for good reason not been met with critical acclaim, and while you can say critics mean nothing, can you say they're all missing the point? :P

Donnie Darko didn't really catch my fancy either. I just filed it away as a teenage angst movie in the back of my head and moved on.

Oh and don't diss The Rock! He's pretty awesome in Walking Tall. We need more straight-out action movies that don't try to be philosophical, but focus on handing out pwnage on bad guys and make us feel good :)

you should stay away from David Lynch, omg they are all like that, more or less, you go crazy during all the interpetations... Mulholland Drive, Lost Highway + more

alot of them is good in an artistic crazy way but some are to wierd and the connections between the leads he gives out are to far out...

about donny darko, I fell asleep =/ but I really want to see it so I'l give it a shot when I'm not all sleepy

and about the 5th element-bashing, the movie is perfect... it has everything, its not deep, its not to shallow, got action, humor, love and very good actors...

and I agree with 28 days later was ruined 2/3 at the end =/ but I would probably still enjoy Resident Evil over it, dunno why... maybbe because of  Milla Jovovich ^^

and here goes; They were in the castle or mansion or whatever, that's cool and all.. they kill every human (smart move... riiight) and then suddenly the black screen appears, and it's 28 days later, and they'r fucking playing with the curtains in a farm out in the country.... annoying, as it leaves TOO MUCH to the imagination.

however, I liked Dawn of the Dead cause it was made in a better way imo.

My reasons for liking Donnie Darko is pretty simple:

-Unique plot, not the usual bang bang explotions and crimes

-Jake Gyllenhaal <3

-Great music

I did not like it because it's "supposed to be intelligent and spiritual", I liked it because it was different and made me wonder a bit the first time I saw it.

You either hate it or love it I guess 8)

The 5th element, has all to be a good sci-fi movie, action, fun and stupid aliens and Gary Oldman is just great as a bad guy :)

Sci-fi wise ST: First contact > The 5th element, but the 5th has so much irony and humor, I just like it and not only that it also has a message, it may not be that obvious but it said to me: Damn you dumb, with all this evil why should humankind survive, but it also gives us hope that we can survive if we believe in love. ;)

Aye

If you got a negative feeling about it before you watch it, don't watch it.  And as I said, Shesaaaid, you DO have to think when watching it, unless you've read the book already :p

I had to watch it 2-3 times before I understood it all, and when I finally did, it got even more interesting. It's like 1000 versions of what happened in that movie, so you can use your imagination too if you want, that's what I like about it.

And, I like the Vin Diesel and The Rock films, I never said anything else

And would it have half the popularity if the characters had all been middle-aged? I somehow doubt it :P It's set among high school kids, and its youth acolytes like to think they're watching and identifying with something intelligent and spiritual.

you seem like you are mad at how the world works.

you might be quite right, that people think "oooooh.. how super intelllligentz this movie is. I am smart". but.. then.. that's just the way it is :)

don't mean it bad tho :p

I agree with 5th element.. didn't know other people liked it this much :) Not on my top 5, but it's a favorite..

I've been taking film/motion picture courses over the past year and I haven?t been able to watch (or really enjoy) movies like I did before. I see the sets, the lights, the shots, etc. Things that were questionable before, now look super cheesy. Things that were cheesy, now look downright laughable. Movies I enjoyed a year ago I look at now and think "wtf is this crap."

The 5th Element has cheesy looking aliens. Some of the location sets look fake. RubiRod is fruity. Zorg's Toupee? The story might even be little cheesy (giant ball of evil on a killing spree?).

But despite all it's cheesiness, for some reason I still like the 5th Element.

I guess it's just got this funky sci-fi feel to it. The cityscape, the Chinese boat/restaurant that floats up to your window, hover taxis. Its intriguing. Not to mention the music was dead on.

True, true, there were too many things in Matrix2 and 3 I didn't like, even if they had some cool scenes.

the freeway sequence in Matrix2 was simply amazing. And the hour long explanation on how they made is even more inspiring/daunting.

But after 0.4 seconds of thought I would think that um:

1 - The One (Jet Li 4 teh win)

2 - Gladiator (Just brilliant)

3 - Resident Evil (Cant wait for the second one)

4 - The Man who sued God

5 - Buttman in Brazil (Any)
